Pemberton Potatoes

The Foods 11/12 classes are starting to think about, and form an opinion about Genetically Modified food.

Pemberton, BC takes this issue very seriously.  In an effort to keep their potatoes pure (and they are some of the best in world), seed potatoes are not allowed into the area.  Farmers do not want to cross contaminate their potatoes with "modified" potatoes.  So, when you buy Pemberton potatoes, you are getting a food product that is naturally good.

We've been busy - here's an update

We've had a busy Fall in all of our Foods classes.

Foods 11/12 had their own Thanksgiving dinner

The students planned all aspects of their meal - the theme, the food, the duties, and they had  a successful dinner (thankfully :).

The Foods 9/10 classes organized a Breakfast Invitational, planning and preparing an "egg"cellent breakfast for a few of their friends.  The menu included omelets, toast, and other treats.  Guests read interesting facts about eggs, and breakfast.  It was  an "egg"straordianry "egg"perience for all.

Welcome to a New School Year

Ms. Smith, Ms Keane, and Ms Kurceba would like to welcome all of you back, and some of you for the first time, to Enver Creek Home Economics.   We encourage you to visit this blog often to view the pictures we have posted, check you marks,read messages we have posted,  or just to send us a message.

For Foods classes, a few adminstrative items - we will be collecting enhancement fees this week.  This helps us with the cost of the food you will be eating in class (or taking leftovers home).  You will also be required to wear an apron - either one you have brought from home, or you can rent one for the semester for $5.


NO APRON = NO COOKING

"Soda" licious

Senior Foods students have been studying food additives, and made soda using ingredients found in most kitchens.  We made:  Chai Tea Fizz, Cream Soda, Lemon Tea, Lime Seltzer, Pomegranate Fizz, and a Sports Drink.

Wacky Wrappers - Staple Foods

The Foods 11/12 classes have been studying staple foods, starting with wheat.  Developing an appreciation of where our food comes from, and the issues farmers face when growing our food, has been the focus.  The fun part....making ravioli and wontons!

In honour of wheat farmers in China who face supply and demand issues (not enough supply), loss of resources like land and water due to rapid urbanization, shortage of labour because people now want to work in the city, and unpredicable weather.

Individual Lab Tests








Just  a reminder to all Foods 9, 10, 11, and 12 students - individual lab tests are next Monday, April 16th and Tuesday, April 17th.  If you have been actively participating in all labs, you should do just fine!

Apron and Enhancement Fees

A reminder to all Foods students, all fees, the food enhancement fee of $15 and apron fee of $5, are due Monday, February 6th.  The apron fee is only if you require to rent an apron for the semester.  The sooner the fees are paid, the sooner you will be cooking.

No apron = No cooking

If you need to talk to any of the teachers about the fee, please do this soon.
